I have 2 bantams in one cage hatching 3 eggs between them. Eggs are 12 days old. One has never hatched any, the other I don't know. During last week they switched spots once. Today I came home & one had eaten the egg! I threw her butt outside. Concerned that the other one might try this...she has 2 eggs left. My idea: I have a bantam outside that just hatched 7 almost 3 months ago and is DYING to hatch something. Should I give her the job? I found a clutch of hers with about 15 eggs outside the other day & got rid of them. She's devastated! What do you think? Never had a mom-to-be eat an egg...

I would switch the eggs to the brrody with no eggs. We have had to do that a few times here. Our Serama's like to eat the eggs if they feel threatened in any way. So we usually let one of our other broodies hatch them for us.

Well, the deed is done! The alledged "perp" (a Nankin) & her co-hort are outside. I like to hatch inside in a cage & there are dogs & cats so maybe she felt threatened. Bought in "mom"...love at first sight of the eggs! Been there, done that. Glad I wasn't here to see the egg eating...candled them last night & they were moving around. Vera
