Well, it finally happened.................I had an egg explode.today is hatch day.
What on earth could cause this........It blew all over.....
I could not see through the eggs when I tried to candle.they are EE'S and very dark.
I had checked every egg at lockdown, did not see any cracks or have any indication during lockdown that
there was a problem with the egg...........
What causes this to happen?.Old eggs? unfertile egg?
Should I pull out the eggs that are not dirty
i have another incubator on lockdown for a hatch today??Grrrrrrrrrrr
Or just hope that maybe a few might make it.....but then the chicks may get goo on them.........
Any help appreciated.
Thanks
toni

also I had one explode the last hatch too. ewww. I wouldn't incubate dirty eggs. I think that is what caused the bacteria in mine. hope someone else helps.

Generally, it's caused by bacteria. Eggs can be contaminated by many things.

Some ways to prevent exploders ~

- Always wash hands before handling eggs
- Only incubate clean eggs, and throw out dirty eggs.
- If an egg must be washed, use clean tools
- Do not incubate eggs found on the floor of the run/coop
- Remove 'quiter eggs' or dead eggs as soon as they are found

I would wipe the junk off of the eggs before it dries. I put my eggs on a

paper towel, then set them on a heating pad until I got my incubator running,

and they did fine. Take the incubator out and sterilize it. Dry it, hook it back up,

& get the temp. and humidity where you need it to be, and add the eggs back.

Sorry this happened!
