Hey y'all! Ok so I'm thinking about taking my hobby to the next level. I want to raise laying hens and sell the eggs at farmers markets and so forth. Does anyone in georgia know how I go about getting certified to do so? I know there are lots of stipulations to homing, maintaining, and selling farm laid eggs from a private farm. I just need to know how to get started.

A few years ago, I read somewhere that there is a written test that must be passed to get certified, but the state had stopped administering the test.

I would check with my county extension office.

You will have a time getting legal. It is a mess an unless you build a big factory farm you wont ever recoup the investment. Standards are pretty much the same as factory farms. An at least in my part of the state I have never seen a factory egg farm ether that sells eggs to eat. They are all producing eggs for hatcheries.

Anyway, you need a USDA egg graders license, a egg grading room with hot an cold water, separate refrigerators, a refrigeration truck for transportation.
