Egg for sale sign works?

One of my neighbors is going to make me a sign. It's going to say "Fresh Eggs Available at the Coop". (I've got a refridgerator built into the outside wall of the coop.)

I'll only put it out on the weekend, when I have eggs available. Since the majority of my customers will be weekend tourists I should be able to save up enough though the week. Hopefully if the sign isn't out people will know there are no eggs. (Wishful thinking)

I am asking $4.00/dz for ours at the moment. We get about 2-3 dz eggs per week right now. Once the new pullets start laying I will bring the price down to 3.50 or 3.00. Our neighbor sells hers for 2.50/dz, but she has mostly bantam chickens and smaller eggs. At the farmers market they sell from 6.50-8.00/dz. Last time we went there everyone was sold out!

WOW! That's crazy! I wish people would pay that much here. I'd quit my day job and sell eggs.

I know, people will pay these crazy prices at the farmer's market, but I can't sell my stuff at way lower prices. Guess I haven't found the right customers. I live on the wrong side of the railroad tracks, if you know what I mean

It is not that difficult to feed organic to chickens..

and free range does not mean organic.. It leads people into thinking that, though..

What a great idea!

Thanks helkat... the idea cam mid-build when I realized I really didn't want people coming to my door as every time someone knocks our dogs go nuts. I'm not selling yet, but I think the investment in the fridge will be worth it.

Also as I said the majority of my buyers will end up being "tourists" so I'm sure they get a kick out of getting to see where the eggs are coming from. Silly NYers think they are so country when they are here.

I'm allowed to say that as I'm an ex.
