Hello everyone,
I am a new chicken mama. We have a chicken that keeps laying eggs under their loft, instead of in the nest. We cleaned out the area a couple of days ago, added pavers under the loft, and put a shallow bin under there for a dust bath, hoping to keep them from laying under there. It worked for one of our chickens (Maxine), but Henrietta continues to lay next to the ramp and even in the dust bath bin! I found 2 of her eggs in those spots. I know that one was laid yesterday and one was layed today. It has been in the 90's here and humid, so would an egg that was laid yesterday and stayed out until today still be good?
We can't lock them into the coop right now to make sure they lay in the nests because it's way too warm for that right now. I've heard of putting fake eggs in the nest, but these ladies are older, and they have been in the coop for several years at a friends house, so it's not like they don't know where to lay. Little monsters. LOL! Do you think the fake eggs would work? Anyway, yeah, just wondering about the egg that was laid yesterday. Thank you for your help.
