How soon do you have to gather the eggs after they have been laid?

If you are asking how long before they rot without refrigeration, they last for weeks. But it is best to gather them at least once a day, because letting them collect might inspire a hen to go broody, and also because the hens might learn to peck them open and eat them. Chickens think they're yummy, just like we do.

I was thinking that if i went somewhere over night and couldn't gather until the next day. would that be a bad idea or should i make sure i have someone to come over and gather eggs?
