Hi, so I have one mallard duck egg left in my incubator after the others quit. It has been incubating the whole time pointy end down in an egg carton because of it's air sac issues. It is now on day 21 and looks great, but I was just wondering if it's fine to keep it in the egg carton for hatching? I've never had to hatch eggs standing up before so I'm not entirely sure what to do. Thanks!

Hello! Could you please send us a picture of the incubator? Where is the air sack? I feel like if the incubator is not blocking the air sack it should be fine... wait a few more days and then observe where the beak is poking at, and make sure nothing is blocking that space. I hope this helps!

Hi! Yes, I was wondering about hatching because the egg is just barely missing the top of the incubator. It's quite a small incubator (A brinsea mini advance 2) definitely not made for eggs to be upright but I just had to work with what I had at the time unfortunately. I can't get a picture at this moment, but I will try later. The air sac is at the right end, but it was just very saddled in the beginning of incubation and still is right now too. I candled it just this morning and I can see it moving around still. Thanks for the advice!

Okay! If its just saddled I feel like it should be okay. I had a few eggs that had saddled air sacks and they made out just fine. I honestly think you should lay the eggs down, just during hatching period. having them upright may affect the hatching, as stated before. Overall, I think it should be fine because it is still moving around!
P.S Your Welcome!

I guess I'll try keeping it upright as of right now...how does hatching standing up affect them hatching? Just curious about it since this is the first time I've had one with this issue. It was moving around so much about an hour when I candled it so I am hoping that that's a good sign!?

I had tried laying the only other egg (also with an air sack issue) I had in this hatching on it's side but it ended up dying halfway through incubation so I am reluctant to do it again, but I am assuming that it's a little different now that the egg is almost to the hatching point now?

Oh... I should have asked this earlier, but what do you mean by, "airsack issues?" Like is the airsack floating around? Anyway, I replied pretty late so sorry for that. If you have already tried laying it on the side, then you can try it standing up. Just wake sure you know where its pipping, so as long as you don't block it it should be fine! Good Luck!

Hi, it actually already hatched on Monday! It's quite small but doing well. I kept it standing upright and it turned out fine.
