So, I need some help...this is my first time incubating eggs, and at day 7 they looked like this...

Are they supposed to be looking like this at day 7? Also, I have them in Styrofoam eggs cartons. Can I leave them in there to hatch then?

Thanks!

If that's the egg at day 7 it's not developing at all and won't now, you should be able to see a small, pulsingdot in the centre with blood vessels spreading out, it will look a bit like a red spider. With regards to the cartons I'm unsure there, I didnt do that last year or this year but I think they need to lie flat to hatch rather than upright :)

I am seeing a small black "block" in some of them. All of them are brown eggs except for 2, which are blue. I guess I will leave them and see what happens. I'm new to all this so not 100% sure what I'm doing yet.

Thanks for the help though.

Leave it another 3-5 days then try again, you should see a wiggling embryo then if it's developing normally but to be honest you egg in te pic looks empty :( fingers crossed you have some. Google candling as there's some good pics on there of what you should see at certain stages :)

As for the cartons, I'd at least switch them out for paper. Styrofoam is a breeding ground for bacteria.
I hatch in paper cartons alot. I cut the bottoms out of each cup so the eggs get good air flow. I leave them in there to hatch and clean up is TONS easier. I don't really notice a difference in hatch rate doing it one way or the other though. Good luck!

I had them in paper cartons and trying to control the humidity was horrible because the cartons got wet somehow. I think I will try and candle on day 18 and see what they look like. I was only using a small led flashlight so maybe it's not strong enough to see the veins??
Anyway, live and learn. Thanks for your help!
