We have a Toulouse who has been sitting on duck eggs and one successful hatched a baby overnight. Yay! However, today she has stepped on and crushed one of the other eggs and it had a small amount of blood on the shell. I have read and reread Sally Sunshine' s brilliant assisting the hatch page, but we're doing this the natural way and not in an incubator. I have successfully assisted before, but i am aware that the odds aren't great this time. What I have done so far is find the air sac end, (shell was already crushed) and made a tiny hole on the membrane. we can see ducky moving and her bill. I have her on a heating pad with a damp towel over and under, and a towel on top with the heat lamp also on. She is still moving, but there are lots of blood vessels in the inner membrane still. Not sure if I made the right choice to remove her from mama, but the blood and crushed shell made me make a quick decision.
