We have a Toulouse who has been sitting on duck eggs and one successful hatched a baby overnight. Yay! However, today she has stepped on and crushed one of the other eggs and it had a small amount of blood on the shell. I have read and reread Sally Sunshine' s brilliant assisting the hatch page, but we're doing this the natural way and not in an incubator. I have successfully assisted before, but i am aware that the odds aren't great this time. What I have done so far is find the air sac end, (shell was already crushed) and made a tiny hole on the membrane. we can see ducky moving and her bill. I have her on a heating pad with a damp towel over and under, and a towel on top with the heat lamp also on. She is still moving, but there are lots of blood vessels in the inner membrane still. Not sure if I made the right choice to remove her from mama, but the blood and crushed shell made me make a quick decision.

She'd be dead if you had left the egg under the goose. About all you can do now is wait. Don't be surprised if you are at the same point in 48 hours. Have you measured the temp of the heating pad? Cover the opening with some tape or better yet take part of an egg shell (sterilize it first) and superglue it over the opening.

That's what I thought . At least she has a bit of a chance. I didn't want to get out the incubator and put it in untested and not set up. We don't have a thermometer...I need to run out and get something today. Thank you!

Your horse is your avatar is gorgeous, by the way! I have a secret dream of having a pair of draft horses one day.

Duckling is still alive this morning but no further progress. There is some oozy goo in the membrane with her, and I still see the vessels in the membrane. Is this still progress? Should I intervene further or just wait, wait, wait? I think it's plenty humid in there, maybe too much? I have the temp around 92 with the heat lamp method. I am going to raise the bowl to get the it closer to the lamp.

Can someone tell me why my alerts don't work anymore?? Some how they keep shutting off to change to No alerts. I constantly have to turn them back on??

Thanks for checking @Lacrystol . No idea about alerts. I still haven't figured out this new byc. He made it! He was a little shaky and slow for a couple days, but he's back out with Mama!! Well, Mother Goose!
