Can you please tell me what the
egg.jpg
heck this is?? What causes it?? I have never seen anything like this, & I do NOT have a rooster. We feed organic feed, & our chickens are kept in a very large fenced in area on grass, & get mealworms, & sunflower seeds as a treat. I appreciate any help.

Well I think that was a goof or a glitch. When I was a girl it was standard practice to open your egg in a small bowl before you added it to the recipe… to check the egg for things like this. Today’s store eggs it seldom happens because they have been examined and sorted.

Just a bit of blood, it's pretty common in young layers, likely in really old hens too. Think of it as a meat spot, just a bit of extra tissue that got thrown into the mix while the egg was forming.

I would only worry if this consistently happens with one specific bird.
