Hello All,

Eliminate my flock last fall - had so many cross breads and such because my nine year old daughter loves hatching them. Decided to start over with just one bread. I raise Cornish Cross for meat birds. What we are looking for is a good docile bird that is a good egg layer. Looking at Buff Orphintons. Good or bad? Also heard that Rhode Island Reds are a qaulity docile bird that is a great egg layer. Does anyone have any advice? We can purchase both right now at our local farm store. Thanks

A lot of hatchery RIR are reported to be feisty and mean, and oprs are generally very docile to the point that other breeds can bully them.

Lots of threads here discuss this, maybe more in the managing your flock forum.
