Egg laying age

Ok, I had it backward! I thought everyone went to gather eggs in the morning! Movies, maybe! :D But, also I haven't gotten any eggs from my girls yet so now I'll keep the boxes open after I let them out for the day and close them before they come in for the night...till they don't want to sleep in the boxes. Plus, now I can put the "all flock" crumbles out and a bowl of oyster shell for the girls, right? I don't put layer out due to the boys, if I got it right. How would I be sure the eggs are not fertile when they do start laying? Or...could they be and I just gather them each day. Gotta say, the thought of eating fertile eggs is a bit of a gag :sick thought for me! LOL!

Yes all flock and oyster shell.

You can eat eggs collected same day fertile or not there is no difference. But if you have an issue with the idea of eating fertile eggs maybe you should consider find new homes for the roosters as they are likely already doing thief business with your ladies. Or at least house then in a seperate coop and run, but then you cant free range them at the same time either unless you plan to hatch eggs...

My Easter egger stopped laying after we had a heat wave. Her sister didn’t. She doesn’t appear ill. It’s been 3 weeks now. She goes to her nesting box daily. Her comb has become a brighter red tint and I increased her protein. Not sure what’s going on with her.

If there are males present, they will be fertile, but you won't even notice unless you know what to look for...as long as you gather all eggs daily.
If you're worried about breaking an egg and finding a chick,
know that a fertile egg needs temps of 100F
for a day or two to start to develop into an embryo.

You should post your own thread whenwhen a an issue. But just so you know my Easter Eggers are finicky about temps too, anything over about 95 degrees and about half of them will stop for a while. And none of mine layed their first winter either. They are always furst to stop last to start
