egg laying age

I know different breeds start lalying at different ages, so at what age will a Black Australorp usually start laying??

For what its worth, our Black Australorp didn't start laying until she was about 25 weeks old. That was last month, and we do have lights on in the AM since daylight hours are short here in the frozen north. She's laying pretty much daily now.

Well, it's worth the wait. I think our Australorp's eggs are the prettiest we get from our 6 different breeds. They're a pale brown, slightly pinkish, and more elongated/pointy that the others. Also a little shinier. Very delicate and beautiful, just like the pullet herself!!!

I am enjoying them a lot, even without the eggs I go out to the coup every day as soon as I get home from work to feed and water them. Then I hang around to hold and pet them and just watch them. These are the first I've had even though we had a few when I was little and I had an aunt in the country who had about 200 chickens. I always wanted my own. Now that we live in the country, I can finally have all the animals I want!!
