egg laying and adding light with a timer questions

Quote:
right now they are getting 13 hrs of light a day. timer on at 3am and they roost at 4- 430 iv tried leaving light on for them after it gets dark outside but the seem to go roost even with the light on in coop a couple will stay down and eat . but the rest go to bed . so what am i doing wrong if they go to bed with the light on lol. when they do that i just turn out the lights and let them sleep no since keeping them up all night. what do u do to get 16 hrs of light.

Not sure about all the science, but I leve a shop lite, floresent, on 24 hrs a day. I have 12 Barred Rocks that are 7 monthe old. We get 10 to 11 eggs EVERY DAY!!!

I only feed Kent products, nothing more nothing less.........................It works.

Well What I had to do with the pigeons, so they dont leave the squeakers uncover at night.

Add the light first then off after daylight, let dusk come natural then they will go to roost. Have your light come on at 1am in place of 3am.

The climate here in Belize is such that we get roughly 12 hours of light all year round.

My 6 month old Production Reds, I have 12 of them are giving me 10-12 eggs everyday.

It's winter here at the moment and temperatures are in the low 50's (yes I know you are all freezing) but to us that is very cold, it's dropped 30/40 degrees over the last few weeks.

I feed the chicks layer mash 16%, and the occasional treat, kitchen scraps, left overs, whatever doesn't go to the dogs.

They do not get any additional light. Just the 12 hours a day.
