Egg laying and feathering problems

You're welcome. Some places can be very expensive. Wait til you see the nice bags they come in. Did you sign up for points. I think I have like $10 for my next order. You don't have to use the points Save them up for a big order. Hope your girls like them. When I used to drive down to MD to see my boys I would ALWAYS see a car on fire on the Jersey Turnpike. LOL. I worked ONC for awhile. I was orthopedic certified also at one time. But my favorite is Hemodialysis. My mother died at 37 from renal failure brought on by SLE and don't ask me to spell it out. LOL. Lupus for lay people. I was 3 years old. So every time I took care of a troublesome pt ( who I actually loved because their life on HD really sucks) I would just pretend I was taking care of my mother. That made it bearable. I always got the patients no one else could deal with. But that was ok.

What breed of chickens do you have?

What breed of chickens do you have?
I have 2 chickens a BO and an ISABrown. They are in their second winter. Then I have 2 SLW pullets. All four laid all winter. Well I got the SLW last of Nov at 16 weeks. They started laying end of Dec. So at 20 weeks. But boy have they grown. I didn't really notice until the other day. You know when you see something every day you don't always notice changes. But they can hardly stand up in the door way coming up into the coop. They are very pretty birds. 4 eggs most days. Only one yesterday. Lazy birds. Not really. But 4 today.

Sounds wonderful. I am looking into breeds other than what I have now. Will let you know what I decide. Our pharmacist got chickens last year and he said that the Blue True Whiting (I think that is the name) is the best layer he has ever had; and that if he had know what a wonderful bird all around it was going to be, he would have gotten just them and not the others he purchased as well.
I got 3 eggs today! First time in ages I got more than 1! Maybe all the herbs is having an effect. I sure hope so!
We are going to my daughter's for dinner so I probably would not get back to you anymore tonight. BTW, if you want to get in touch with me other than here, email is [email protected]

Several hours later - we are back home. Delicious supper!!! Going to bed shortly.

Today I got 5 eggs from my 8 Australorps!!! First time that many in ages!!! I have been giving them Black oil sunflower seeds, scratch, alfalfa hay (they eat the greens out and spread the rest - coop smells so good), their regular mash which is 18% the past few days. I also had given them a big salad of herbs (sage, parsley, oregano, basil, thyme etc) about a week ago almost. They also have had fresh kale and cabbage.
For the longest time I was only getting 1 or 2 eggs/day and occasionally 3. I hope they are back to laying now. Today I got my order of 5 lbs of mealworms which I will start feeding tomorrow. I also had dusted them with a dust for mites this is all natural and can be used in a veggie garden as well.
Seems I am making progress. We have had a lot of topsy turvy weather - Up & Down temps, snow, ice, rain, wind. However, my babies are in a nice dry coop w/ red heat lamp 24/7 and a white light 12 hrs/day. Also have given them a big scoop of oyster shells.
Keep your fingers crossed for me.
