Hi
We have 12 Frey's Special Dual Purpose hens. They are almost 8 months old. They have been laying for 2 - 3 months. Our egg count ranges from 4 - 10 eggs. They have a large run. I have been searching for hidden eggs and only found one.

Does it make sense for their production to range this much. They are dual purpose so I donèt expect great production. I would expect a narrow production range though.

Thanks

The numbers can vary from day to day as you have found out. Since DPs are not everyday layers they take days off, on their schedule. They don't coordanate with each other so one lays for two days and another lays for three and takes a day off. And they don't always keep the same schedule. So the number of eggs can vary from day to day.

The range of variance day to day doesn't tell you much it's the consistency of weekly totals that tells the story. Let's say you gather 60 eggs a week regularly then your girls average 5 eggs a week each. Weekly totals paint the picture and will show the real trend.
