Egg laying equal to type of treats

good to hear that you and your family came through it O.K. -- we have had enough natural disasters around the country to last us for quite a while.

Not sure that bread and jam wouldn't cross the line and they would expect to have tea and crumpets with it and then get really spoiled...lol

But---- making sure that their food is really good quality and supplementing. I am still new to chickens and searching around to find what the ideal feeding set up is for mine. I have switched to flock-raiser instead of layer rations because of the higher protein content. We have such a drought here---that even the grasshoppers are too skinney to give much nutrition to the chcikens, and there isn't any grass for them to free-range on. I feed some of their eggs back to mine, and sunflower seeds their new favorite food, occasional meal worm treats, lettuce which they love, since our grass here is all dry and brittle---some rolled oats out of the box, occasional cooked plain rice and occasional plain pasta leftovers.... I'm very lucky that they have each produced an egg each day for the last 4 days...then occasionally one will skip a day. Our temperatures---you don't even want to hear about our temperatures...

It will be interesting if the fig-theory does produce 4 eggs tomorrow. And you did say that they are still getting started so that may be a factor too.

Just thought I would post an update on how many eggs vs. the fig treats. So, because of Hurricane Irene, the ladies were shut in their coop for the day and didn't get any treats. I did check on them a couple times and they were just chilling on the roost bar looking out the window. So, they seemed fine and not stressed. So, we did get 4 eggs on Saturday, but they had been given some figs on Friday. Sunday, I got 4 eggs even though they didn't get any figs and today, my husband went around 9:30 and found 3 eggs, but I went back around 11:00 and there was one more, so we got 4 again today! So, maybe it was just the maturing of the ladies. I don't know.

But, hopefully, out of the 5 BS, I will get 4 eggs a day. Now, if my Americaunas would just start to lay.......
