We're waiting for our first eggs and wondering what eggs from a mixed-breed duck will end up like. Is it just the like of the draw? (Anything that is in the gene pool of either parent) Or is the egg a duck hatched out of some indication of the eggs she will lay?

In our case, the duck's mom was an Australian Spotted who layed lovely green eggs. Dad was presumably a blue-swedish/cayuga mix. The duck sure looks cayuga-ish, though. If she lays black eggs that will be so cool.

Do we just have to wait and see?

I would wait to see. I don't think it would lay black eggs because the green genetics should dilute the color.

Darn. egg color dilution isn't linked to feather color dilution, then?

I don't think so but genetics aren't my strong point.

When dealing with mixed ducks it will be a shot in the dark for what she'll color the eggs will be. Some genetic remain visually hidden to the eye but effect the bird.
