Hello!

My girls are about 1 3/4 year old (Turning 2 in April) Golden Comets and are deep into their first molting session. I live in Connecticut and since it is chilly, I understand that they conserve their energy to stay warm and do not lay as often. The girls live in a Henspa and in the winter, we wheel the henspa into a portable garage to keep them out of the snow and cold.
The other day, my mother cleaned out the henspa and she noticed eggs were being laid in the bottom corner of the henspa and not in the nest box where they have always laid their eggs. The eggs are slightly under the straw. Is this a sign of some of the chickens becoming broody? Or may it just be a "phase" that'll end after winter is over. I'm slightly worried.

Thanks!
Travis

Hmm..probably one laid in a different place and everyone else followed suit.

Put the eggs back in the next box and they will hopefully start in the right spot again.

My mother placed plastic easter eggs in the nest box. Are those good or should we use the real eggs?
