Hello I bought some point of lay hens last year they have been doing really well up untill the last 3 weeks they was laying 3 eggs a day of 3 hens now at the moment i am lucky if i get 1 a day, I think one of my chickens has gone broody but i still thought i would have got 2 eggs a day, they have also been losing alot of feathers weather its a bad moult of if there plucking i am not sure, can anyone please give me some advice they are on layers pellets.

I would guess they were moulting, they will be fine. I don't know if you can hurry the process or not maybe someone else will let you know. Good luck.

probably a molt - they're about the right age. Can you take pictures and post them? Dont force the molt further - they'll do it all on their own, in their time.

Are you giving anything other than layer pellets? Any fresh veggies?

One thing you can do to help them through a molt is provide extra protein. It takes a lot of protein to make feathers. Yogurt, cooked egg, meat and fish, etc. Layer is the correct feed when they are laying but it is usually only 15% or 16% protein; game bird feed is much higher. Perhaps offer game bird as a treat, or black oil sunflower seeds. If oyster shell is available to them, they will still get enough calcium.

I have been giving them lettuce and other veg scaps they have had loads of home grown ones
