I have 1 jersey giant hatched 2/11/09 and 3 buff orps hatched 2/22/09. The jersey has been laying now for about 3 weeks and lays fairly consistantly but has me concerned because twice now she has laid 2 eggs at the same time. The first time it happened neither egg had a shell and the second time she laid one egg with a smear of blood and a second egg that was rough on the surface and streaked..
My question is why is she doing this and is this something that will harm her?
I would also like to know if buff orps get a late start on laying? 2 of the 3 have each laid 2 eggs over the course of 2 weeks and the 3rd hasnt begun to show any sign of laying even tho physically she is the largest of the 4 birds. They eat layer pellets and household scraps and free range all over the yard everyday so have a wide variety of foods. they have free access to grit and oyster shell. I am currently treating them for lice they picked up from the wild birds in my yard. Shouldnt they all be laying by now and more consistantly than 2 eggs in 2 weeks?
Thank you
