egg laying song

My hens an hour before sunset sing the egg laying song very loud. And when it finishs i go out side to have a look and see nothing. Im not sure if the same one does it or different hen but this has been happening for 4nights. Anyone know why.

Idk. Mine will do it when they see eggs, right before and after they lay eggs, or when they see another bird in the nesting boxes. My BO also made a similar sound the time my polish decided to go adventuring in the neighbors front yard one morning (and worried me half to death).

Maybe they're being haunted by a ghostly egg.

My BSL does it before and if there is someone in her box.

My girls will do it before they lay, after they lay, and when someone else is in the preferred nest box. My Wyandotte especially. Sometimes my other girls chime in and sing with one who has laid. It's funny.

The 'egg song' sounds very similar to an alarm call too.

Theory has it that the 'egg song' is a call to find flock mates out on the range after pausing to lay.
