egg laying

Oh, it depends how old she is. My hens just started laying this month and we got them in Marchish-Mayish, and only a couple have started. I guess it also depends on what breed of chicken you have. Mine was Rhode islands.

I have had my red stars start laying at 15 1/2 weeks

Hi, and Welcome to the forum.

Different breeds of chickens vary in average age of laying, but generally around 22 to 24 weeks (6 months). Some lay around 18 weeks, some take a looong time (Like my runt Easter Egger!) Do you know what signs to look for as they get ready to start laying? How old are your chickens?

They will show more interest in the nest box, trying it out, sitting in it for a while. Combs and wattles get very red. They get much more friendly to their human, allowing petting, being picked up, jumping on your lap. Some will "squat" where they are, when you try to pet their back, rather than run away. Hope this info helps.

thank you for that information i will start paying attention to it.
