my chicks just started laying eggs last week I have 6 hens one day I got 3 eggs the next day I got 1 egg and the next 1 egg and the none what can be the problem

New layers don't lay consistently for at least a week or two, so what you're describing is perfectly normal, don't worry. As their bodies get used to producing eggs they will lay more regularly.

My production has slowed way down. I have 3 that are about 8 months old and am only getting one egg a day if I'm lucky. Weird for the first year I think.

Do you use supplemental light? If you don't then depending on whether or not you have a production breed of hen or a hobby breed of hen then your egg production numbers are perhaps a little HIGH for this time of the year.

When they first start laying it's not very consistent. They might not even start spitting them out on a regular basis until spring due to it getting colder. If your having big weather changes that will also affect them until they find their groove so to speak. Getting 3 one day then 1 the next isn't unusual at first. Depends on the breed as well as far as temps go too. Since winter time has less light they won't lay as many unless you have added light. Even with that some breeds just don't like the cold lol. Here this spring though they should be in full gear.

My RIR's and BR's are about 9 months and i'm having more or less the same problem. With the weather 80 degrees one day and 30 the next it tends to happen at least here in Texas. I've noticed in years past that chickens do this when the weather goes haywire from fall to winter. So i blame it on the weather. They should work themselves out within a few weeks i would think.
