I've been storing my unwashed eggs (no rooster) in the fridge and now that I have several dozen, have noticed a chicken yard odor in my fridge. I sell or give away most although I eat my fair share. They are moved out within a week generally.

No one has complained to meof an odor, but I wonder if it's noticeable to anyone else and they are too polite to say anything. I didn't want to shorten the "life span" by washing them. Any thoughts?

After removing the entire contents, I would clean my refrigerator thoroughly using ACV and then inspect every item closely including sniffing before putting them back in.

How do you store your eggs? Do you happen to use previously used commercial egg cartons for storage?
Do you only have clean unwashed eggs in your fridge?

Maybe rather store eggs in washable plastic containers and a different cool place that is not your fridge if you have a lot of dirty eggs.

And welcome to the BYC community! :frow

Sometimes I notice the smell of the eggs fresh countertop and I'll boil them and they'll smell different than the ones I washed and put in the fridge.. should just wash them before I use them even if they are clean? I just wondered what the difference is I guess.
