I know, it sounds weird but I have two bantam EE's, one is definitely a pullet and I've had no doubt about her since she was young. The other one I wasn't so sure on, I've gone back and forth a dozen times and had finally decided roo and that he'd have to go when "he" threw me for a loop. The two of them are from the same set of parents, hatched out the same day, but the rust colored pullet was much smaller, about 2/3's of the size of the mostly white "roo". They're now about 8 months old and every time I've tried to get close enough to truly be sure they scatter so I haven't been able to do a good close up inspection.

I've been getting ping pong sized green eggs for about a month now and since I've seen the pullet setting I was 99% sure they were from her. Well tonight when I went to the barn to feed I found two green eggs and two pink eggs, which brings me to my question. Is it possible for a hen to change the color of her eggs within a 3-4 day time period? I'd been getting a green egg every other day and she since she'd missed a day it had been 3 days since I've gotten any bantam eggs, so if they all belong to the one it would mean 4 eggs in 3 days. Do I have 2 pullets or do I still need to try to take "his" picture?

take a pic, I got 4 eggs from 3 pullets today, guessing one laid last night and then early this afternoon. Mine sometimes lay sooner, sometimes later.......

I just reread the post....are they the only birds in the coop? They can't change color.....what they lay is what they lay, only shade of that color may change. The other thing is, could it be a different chicken? Maybe a pullet egg?

eta- I really have to wait for the kids to go to bed before I play on BYC

No, they're not the only hens in the coop but the other three are all standards; 2 bl. australorps laying large brown eggs and one EE/Ameraucana laying very large green eggs. I can't imagine one of the others is suddenly laying both bantam sized and standard eggs, even if they were I've gotten 3 large eggs every day for the last several weeks.

So egg color stays the same? Yay!!! He's a she!! Phew, she's a pretty bird and I really didn't want to have to rehome her.

And I will try to get pictures, but not tonight, not in the rain.

It sounds like 2 pullets to me. I had an easter egger that also had me thinking roo till she was 5 months old. She was the second of my ten chickens, and first of the EEs, to lay an egg.
