One of our hens laid a soft shell egg on the roost last night. Now she has sticky egg on the feathers on her belly where she sat in egg all night. Any suggestions for how to clean the egg off her feathers? Soap and water works better than nothing but it is really tedious and not coming off easily.

Maybe just a good soak in warm water will help it loosen up? Did you manage to get it off? What worked?

Thanks for reaching out! We used generous amounts of shampoo and several changes of a warm soapy water bath and it got everything off. We just used human shampoo - probably about 1 cup total when it was all said and done. We didn't have any shampoo on hand specifically for animals. But it did take a long time. Poor gal. She looked very relieved when she was done. The egg had caked her breast and belly feathers together really stiff and spiky so it was uncomfortable for her.
