Hi all.

I have had a bird in quarantine due to an small wound she had. Whilst she has been isolated I believe she may have got into the habit of pecking/eating her eggs.

It is shortly coming up to the time in the UK where we have the shortest daylight. When the hens stop laying for a brief period, will this cure the egg pecking as there is non to peck or will she remember ?
I have some ceramic eggs to ready just in case however I cannot collect the eggs until after work which is around 6pmso she'll have all day to go at them.

I'm also hesitant to release her from isolation as I have heard that the behavior is easily spread to others.

Really interested to know the thoughts of some of you experience chicken keepers

Thank you

Try blowing out some eggs and filling them with yellow dish soap, if she pecks one to eat shell get a bitter reward and will soon stop after a few eggs.

i also have a bit of an egg eater situation. making sure the nest box is full of hay helps but im considering a roll away system where the nest floor is slightly slanted and the egg rolls to a protected area like below

edit: if you dont wanna go with the roll away system I bought these: https://a.co/d/5jD1C27 to act as a cousin below the hay and it helps prevent egg breakage and helps keep them from kicking they hay out. Only problem is they can (do) get dirty and are a pita to clean out.
