Hi All,
Possible reproductive issue?
I have an 1.5 years old Isa Brown hen - Basil & she lays 6 eggs a week.
Her eggs are almost dark brown colour
These last few months she was having egg issue - egg with membrane only, no shell.
Treatment: I gave her Calcium Citrate D+
Duration: 1 week sometimes 2 weeks depending on the outcome.
Result: Egg back to normal again.
Then it goes back to no shell egg and so it is back on with the calcium treatment and outcome same as before.
I noticed that whenever her egg has almost a white shell colour, the next day she would poop out an egg without shell. Whenever I see such white egg shell, Basil is back on calcium tablet immediately.
Basil has NOT been on calcium for 10 days now.
I had Isa Brown before and they suffered reproductive issues around the 1.5 years of age, egg without shell, fainted colour eggs, then pimple eggs and in the end, strange rubbery looking egg, then egg bound and gone.
The day before yesterday, her egg has this white dust looking on it, and there are pimple. This look like calcium deposit overload.
Yesterday her eggs is looking more brown, but have heavy calcium deposit at the bottom end, but the top end of her egg is lighter in colour.
I don't know if she is having too much calcium or her system has start problem processing calcium/eggshell, perhaps reproductive malfunction?
Does egg's colour like Basil is the indication of something else?
My fear is that Basil might be on the edge of reproductive issue, I watch her with hawk eyes and try to reduce the chance of her having reproductive issues.
Please advice. Thank you in advance.
This picture of 2 eggs from two consecutive days, the recent one is darker in colour, the first one is light and covered in white dust. Both have calcium deposit at the bottom end.
This egg top end is lighter in colour
Same egg, top is lighter and bottom is darker in colour
