I've never had one that clearly hatched out at the small end! I would think if it got through the shell and there was not liquid there, then it should make it ok. If it gets air, that is what it is needing at this point. Hopefully it didn't have any liquid down there and will be able to hatch out on it's own. Helping can be very risky, so I would give it some time and see how it goes. Also, if you are incubating, opening up the incubator to "help" can hurt the other eggs, so it's a balancing act that way too.

i did notice that it had a really small air cell when i last candled the eggs a couple days ago. i would say half the size of what my other eggs are. from looking in the bator i can see he his alive and i can see a slit in the membrane where the peice of shell is missing. i will give him more time and see what he can do on his own.

This must be a BR thing to do, the last 2 BR eggs I hatched (this past week) both did the same thing. None of the others did that just the BR's...hmmmm !! Anyway, Keep the bator closed in till all chicks have hatched !! You dont want to open it and have the other babies not hatch. Sometimes when they pip the wrong way they can make it out on there own sometimes they cant, IMHO dont help if its meant to be it will hatch if not it wont. I have seen to many people help babies out sometimes ends up worse !! Eggs that dont hatch usally dont hatch for a reason, its natures way of keeping our flocks strong !! Good luck, hope the little one makes it out on his own !!

Don't help it!! I had one do this and he came out on his own just fine. Just be patient and see if he can do it on his own. Keep us posted......

I've had quite a few pip at the wrong end...

they all seem to make it without help!

well he is still alive. i look in with a flash light and see the egg start rocking. he has started to try to zip ill just keep an eye on him and hope i have a fresh healthy chick when i crawl out of bed tomorrow lol if i can sleep.

I had one that got as far as zipping but just couldn't manage to push himself out, so i just pulled the shell off him after he'd done all the work lol
