Egg problem !

Eggs can back up. Sometimes several. It can become life-threatening. Sechs passed her stuck egg after five or six days on metacam anti inflammatory. We also gave her antibiotics because there was a sign of infection around her vent. We gave her an injection to slow egg production also.

A good vet is best. It should do no harm to add a teaspoon of turmeric per two cups of food ( be careful, it stains). It is very mild anti inflammatory. Keeping her in a darkened pen may slow egg production. I would add 100 to 200 mg calcium to her diet daily for four days. And let her swim in some lukewarm water.

Yeah, she might be egg bound. If she doesn't lay soon, it could become a serious problem. Give her lots of calcium, which is necessary for the muscles to push the egg out and to make the shells hard - it's really difficult to lay soft shelled eggs. A warm bath, like Miss Lydia said, will help relax her and maybe get her to lay. Hope it all works out!

I add turmeric to moistened food, and put calcium citrate both in treats like peas if a duckmis having soft egg issues, as well as smaller amounts in the food. I don't think there would be a problem adding both.

Use Tums if that is all you have then pick up some Cal citrate to have on hand.

I also use Turmeric I add it to the FF I make for my flock .

I appreciate your imput @Amiga I was thinking this was egg binding but got over ruled.

Soak her behind in warm epsom salt water. My neighbor had a hen that was egg bound and she recovered with the epsom salt soaking. I suggest you try it.

Thank you ladies!! Was does FF stand for?! And I'm guessing I need to separate my boy from the calcium? I did this morning !

FF is fermented feed. If you can separate your drake where they can all still see each other so he doesn't stress too much that would be good.
