Egg Problems? Egg Bound?

Gave her a warm bath with epsom salts water, 2 days in a row. Also put some coconut oil on her rear end. I think I did feel an egg in there. She is defecating though. Her rear end is very red and still bare. I'll keep doing this as long as I am able to until she gets well.

My 2 year old golden sex-link is acting like she is egg-bound; standing up like a penguin and squatting on the nest. She has laid 2 eggs since a hiatus, the most recent was yesterday. I am new to owning chickens and this is my first experience with this. I soaked her bottom in warm Epsom salt water bath twice for 20 minutes. After reading more, I inserted a lubed gloved finger in her vent, but did not feel any egg matter. I am offering her food and calcium. Is there anything else I could do? What are the chances she will pass an egg? I am worried.....

Is she alert, able to poop and eating/drinking on her own?
If she is, give her some time to see if she passes the egg.

I do see poop on her rear end. She hasn't laid an egg in a couple of days. Today, she seems alert and almost like normal. She sat in the next box for several hours, but it doesn't look like she laid an egg. She is drinking and is joining in with the activities with the others. I'll soak her bottom again tomorrow, if she doesn't lay an egg.

You can buy them online without a prescription—they are for pigeons or fish, but the same drugs. Baytril (enrofloxacin) is banned in chickens in the US, but many use it for reproductive problems, and use an egg withdrawal period. I would prefer Baytril to amoxicillin, but you can use either. Here are links to where to buy them:

I would buy the enrofloxacin or baytril 100 ml liquid seen below—dosage is 0.05 ml per pound twice a day for 5-6 days

Yes, she is eating and drinking on her own. I separated her from the others so I can check on her around the clock. I hope she passes the egg soon. Thank you!

Thank you for your interest. I know the chicken community offers a lot of information and knowledge. Welll…...after two days of Epsom salt baths, digital checks, and quiet separation, no egg. She eats and drinks on her own. She looks alert. I put her back with the other 2 hens for a few hours and she crouched in the dirt with the sun on her back. She poops. Hmmm....maybe I just need to be patient.

It sounds like she has a reproductive problem - Internal Laying, EYP, cancer, tumors, Salpingitis are all possibilities. Symptoms include weight loss, loose dropping, standing like a penguin, lethargy, difficulty walking, labored breathing, swelling/bloat or fluid in the abdomen.
It would be good to feel her abdomen to see if she is bloated. Check her for lice/mites and monitor her crop to make sure it's empty in the mornings.
If you have vet care, that is always best.

My lil' hen laid an egg today! This is her third egg after a winter hiatus. She spent much of the day hours laying in the dirt where the sun shines. My TLC and patience paid off and it looks like she is feeling better. Thank you all on this board!
