Congratulations on your new layers! And welcome! So glad you joined! Lots of good information! First eggs are baby sized eggs from baby chickens. Bigger and better eggs are on the way!
Is there a breed of chicken that is a higher producer of small or medium sized eggs?
I have found through research not experience that the Silver Laced Wyandotte is the highest producer of medium sized eggs. It just seems all the super layers lay large or extra large eggs.
Does egg size usually get passed down through the mother? If so I think I could produce a hybrid that is a high producer of medium sized eggs by breeding a white leghorn male with a silver laced Wyandotte female.
I’m not sure why I am fascinated with creating a high producer of medium/small sized eggs. I guess it is because there isn’t one out there yet of which I am aware.
Great Question! Welcome to the coop! I use the Forums and Articles tabs at the top of the page to do research. You can get lost for hours. It's nice to know you are minutes away from getting help with questions and emergencies!
Why not consider some of the bantam breeds that are high egg producers? Here is a description with a list of high egg producers. Just to pull that out:
Easter Eggers, Brahma, Plymouth Rocks, and Sussex are some of the best egg laying bantams
