probably not if they are getting quality feed with vitamins and stuff. They have them indoor for commercial production with just lighting, so must be ok. But then that is just my thought.
However saying that, I have read somewhere before that sunlight provides them with the vitamin D like us.

MOST SPECES OF QUAIL CAN BE TRICKED INTO LAYING WITH FULL SPECTRUM LIGHT14+ HRS UN-INTERRUPTED A DAY. SOME WILL NOT LAY UNDER ARTIFICIAL LIGHT( THERE'S SOME THAT ARE JUST FINICKY...) SOME WOULD LAY UNDER CANDLE LIGHT WHILE OTHERS WILL NOT ACCEPT ANYTHING OTHER THAN FULL SPECTRUM OR DAYLIGHT--- IT ALL DEPENDS ON THE INDIVIDUAL BIRDS.
If you put a species qualification on the question, you will get a more qualified response.
You can raise coturnix in a basement with a 7 watt light bulb and get meat, eggs , and what ever you want.
You can't do that with bobs, or any other species of QUAIL. Sunlight is good! That means you can put the night light away.
