We combined our 16 week old Barred Rocks with our year old RRI's 3 days ago. The first day we got our normal 20 plus eggs. The next two days dropped to around a doz. Today it dropped to 9. Is it just the shock of the new chickens? They had visual contact from the time the Rocks were a month old and they seem to be getting along. Hoping this will pass :(

Will maybes just be the stress of the new comers, my flocks egg production usually goes funny when theres new comers. Were the new ones quarantined and checked over for lice/mites?

We bought the Rocks when they were a day old. When they were a month old we moved them into the coop, but keep them separated with a chicken wire wall. Hoping it's just stress and the eggs will begin again in a few days. Thanks for you comment.

I've noticed that any time something is different in the coop, whether new chickens are added or there is some "remodeling", egg production drops for a few days. I wouldn't get concerned until you've noticed a significant drop sustained over a week or two. You, then, might consider other things. At present, it sounds like they may just be adjusting to the new company.

Thanks for your help. We are newbies to egg business and appreciate any help we can get :)
