I have no success hard cooking my fresh eggs and wondering if there is something I need to add to the chicken diet. I give a standard layer crumble and add oyster shell to the feed.

When I hard cook the fresh eggs, the shell is difficult to peel and the top layer of the egg is mushy. Does anyone have suggestions to remedy the problem. BTW: I don't have this issue with store bought eggs.

You can find a lot of suggestions about doing this on this forum. I have found the best way is to steam them for 20 minutes. Then a cold water bath. I`m sure many more members will chime in....It happens because your eggs are much fresher.

That's because store-bought eggs are probably 1-2 weeks old when you buy them. Fresh eggs, when hard boiled, don't peel worth a darn. Try letting them "age" until they're a week old and you won't have that problem.

More like 1-2 months.

Everyone has a way that works for them. I add 1/4 c salt to boiling water BEFORE adding the eggs. Boil for 17 minutes, then give an immediate ice bath.
