Egg question [PICS]

Any egg that I feel has been subjected to a freeze, goes in the trash. Wait until you get a fresh one to replace it.

Wont it develope though? They do in the wild?...

You know.... it's one of those grey areas. It might and then again it might not. True, the wild ones can be subjected to a freeze, but here were I live, the wilds start their clutches about the second week of April or later. Freezes on the Eastern Shore are pretty much over by then. I'm guessing hens further north correlate their nesting accordingly.

It's your call. Good Luck!

Personally, I don't think the sharpie will have any effect on development. Any solvent from the ink has already evaporated and I doubt penetrated the shell to a depth that would matter. All that's left on the surface is the pigment. I say go for it!

Upon thinking about it further, do a test. Take a store bought chicken egg, write on it with a sharpie as you did the turkey eggs. Crack it open and see if it penetrated the shell.

Ideas like that make me so happy i found this forum=]

I gave a nice coating and im gonna give it time. like 5-10 minutes. Plus, chicken eggs are thinner shelled so if nothing happens, they should be good. Im only worried it would clog the pores and the embryo wouldnt be able to get enough oxygen

An egg shell is covered with thousands of microscopic pores. Even if 10% were clogged, the bulk of the rest would suffice. Nature has a lot of redundancy and back ups. Comes from millions of years of evolving and adaptation.
