this may sound silly but is there a way to preserve my chickens and ducks first eggs. I saw how difficult it was for the chicken to lay hers yesterday for the first time and I got the first duck egg today(there was some blood on it--is that normal?)

Anyway, I was thinking I'd like to keep those first eggs...

Yes the first eggs will have blood on them. The first few may actually be that way. They will also change size until they get adjusted. As far as preservation I can only think of pickling them but that would of course remove the shell. Also if a hen goes off lay for an extended period of time when she starts back she may have bloody eggs. As long as the hens vent isn't profusely bleeding then it's quite normal and happened to all my hens.

Yep! Thats all normal! The will both increase in size, and also the blood will go away once they lay more eggs! Here is a video of how to preserve the eggs!!

Hope this helps!:thumbsup
