Hi guys! So to start off I have an egg question. I have been getting great big duck eggs lately..which has been pretty nice. Today I got 2 beautiful eggs and one that was broken and the shell was all cracked. I was thinking over all the possibility and I don't think it is a soft shelled egg b/c the shell is all cracked. I am wondering if they are eating there eggs....? I have not idea why they would eat there eggs. Maybe they just walked on it and it cracked...? I really don't know so just wanted to see what you guys think so that I can do whatever is necessary to keep getting eggs that are not cracked.
Second question is yesterday I got 3 eggs. One was bigger then the rest and a different color(more tinted green kinda) then the rest of the eggs(white). I have buffs and there regular eggs laying color would be white or tinted so I don't really know what color this is coming from. Just wanted to see if I have some kinda of different color laying buff. If this helps all my girls are of the same strain so I should be getting the same color eggs. Pics are attached. Pic 1 is for my first Q and pic 2 is for my second Q. Thanks a lot!

Is is kinda hard to see the different color in this pic so I can take a different one. The egg that should have the different color should be the top one(it is also bigger).

I was hoping someone else would chime in like @Miss Lydia and I'm sure she will. I'd like to give you my expert opinion but I am not one and don't have a clue. That first picture is a mess! Wow that is weird looking!

On the second picture I can comment that I have 2 sets of 3 laying runners of differnent ages and sometimes someone lays a huge egg. I assume it's not one of the younger ones but still! For a while recently I had one duck that was laying ridiclously big eggs for about a week but now that has settled down and she's back to laying normal ones.

I have had eggs like that @happy duck shell probably thin and then they step on it. As for size oh my gosh my Buffs have produced whoppers and I have worried. But once they were over a year old the gigantic double Yolkers have stopped. As for color my two Buffs lay a white egg I’m sure it’s not uncommon for the color to be a little off. I don’t think it’s anything to worry about unless you start seeing a lot of thin shells.

Anybody....?
The cracked egg looks like it has a thin shell. Maybe your duck laid a thin shelled and accidentally crushed it.
As for the larger egg, I can see a slight color difference, but this moght be the same duck that layed the thinner shelled egg. She might just be going through a blip in her system. Normally she should be able to go back to laying regularly eggs. If not then there might be a problem.

And if you find that the shells are thin we know what to do about that too!

Looks more like soft shell egg rather than eaten one may have after it was layed where did you find it
Ok...That would make since, but they always have oyster shell available and my girls know where to find it so I really don't know why it would be soft shelled....I found it in the coop this morning.

You did help me a lot! She is kinda younger...under a year. This is weird but I think they are going to be great layers b/c only after of month of them laying one of them layed a double yolk. I was so impressed! They started laying in August/september of 2018.

Sounds good! I was hoping it was not something like they where eating it. I will just make sure they know where there oyster shell is. I just recently moved it to another area of the run so maybe they can't find it..... I hope they keep laying well, but as they get older I know they will slow down. They are still really young so now...I expect a good deal of eggs from them!

Maybe it is a blip in her system. I will try to keep you guys updated on what the eggs lo ok like. I hope nothing is wrong with her. If this has anything to do with anything one of my girls abdomens hangs down lower then any of my others. Don't know if this will help with anything just wanted to point it out.

When you get a soft/thin shelled egg or a double yolker, it's just their bodies adjusting to laying eggs when they start laying. Some ducks/chickens might lay just one others could lay eggs like this on and off for a couple of weeks. Even if they have oyster shell. She should be fine. Just keep an eye on her.
As for the one with the swollen belly, I would feel it and see if you can feel an egg or if it feels squishy. Maybe take a pic and post it.

Cool! Will take a pic! I realized that it has been like that for a while but never thought anything of it. I don't think it would be an egg because I have gotten one from her for the last 2 days. I will feel around tho...just in case.
