My cochin has been sitting on 5 eggs since the 5th of this month.

Early this evening I went to check on her and found and egg had been kicked out of the nest. I picked it up and put it back under her. The egg wasn't there this morning so I am guessing it may have been out at least half the day.

If the egg was fertile and developing..would it still be? I understand it take 21 days to hatch and it may not have been fertile to start with. But was still curious.

ok, I guess I asked a dumb question..

I'm new to broody chickens and don't know anything really about the Longevity of the egg in a situation like this.

no worries. will just wait it out and see.

A broodie hen can tell if an egg is fertile.. I think it is by the temperature it holds and gives off.. It might have accidently got rolled out.. If it happens again, candle it.. It prolly is a dud.
