We got our first duck egg on Sunday. So exciting and now I have few questions.

It's a pretty little white egg. I'm guessing one of my Pekins, I don't think it's my Welsh Harlequin as she is just a bit younger.

Anyways, since ducks don't always lay eggs where you want how do you all deal with the dirty eggs?
So far I've just been taking them in and washing them. I know with chickens you don't need to wash unless dirty. but these eggs are wet and dirty. I'm guessing not a good combo for just leaving them be until ready to eat?

I'm also not really finding how long they are good for if left on the counter or refrigerated?

I haven't really scrubbed the eggs but after washing they look like this. Is this good enough?

I think you attached the wrong picture. ;)

I always wash my duck eggs gently with just water because ducks are dirty and messy, and so are their eggs sometimes. I know if left in a cool place the eggs are good to eat for at least a few weeks, longer if kept in the fridge.

Thank you, I have a fairly clean duck house for them but they rather drop them near the pool.

I don't wash mine un til I use them. When you wash it takes the bloom off. Not bad just shortens the lifespan. I figure 10 days on the counter or 60 in the fridge. Unwashed. Shorter if washed.

Thank you, I'm going to guess the ones they lay by the pool the bloom is already washed off. They are wet when I gather them.
