I have a pair of Cayugas and they have been laying white eggs, is that normal? And she isn't sitting on them but she has started making a nets, how long can an egg go without heat before it is dead?

I've never had ducks so I'm not sure about the colour but I think white eggs are normal. Eggs are usually good for hatching till about 7-10 days after they've been laid. But I've had some eggs from my chicken get to about 15 or 16 days and they still hatched. But 7 days is about right. And yes a chicken can definitely hatch a duck egg. They can even hatch quail, pheasant or turkey eggs. :)

I'm not sure about the size of your ducks but I'd say a larger chicken. Actually you could use any chicken but if you want to hatch out a few eggs a big hen would be good.
