A few weeks ago, someone in my city emailed me about buying some FERTILE eggs for hatching. I posted an ad on and he responded. We corresponded about 10 times. So, after emailing back and forth, I was under the impression that he wanted the eggs to put in his incubator, which is fine by me. No problem at all. Each time he emailed me, he continued to stress that the eggs HAD to be fertile because he wanted to place in his incubator. Towards the end of the emailing, I wasn’t getting a comfortable, warm and fuzzy feeling about him, so I stopped emailing him. Something just didn’t sound and feel right. Well, I was made aware that he now has an ad advertising fertile eggs for sale. He his advertising both chicken and duck eggs for sale. He wanted to buy my fertile eggs at a lower price to sell the eggs at a higher price. Can you believe that!!! My mouth hit the floor when I read his advertisement. Do you think I’m over-reacting? Why would someone want to buy fertile eggs to turn around and sell fertile eggs? I knew something was fishy about him. People have some nerve!

Some people are just looking for an easy way to make money. There have been people in my area that will buy fresh eggs for eating for x amount, then resell them for a dollar more.

That's pretty rude! Some people have no... no sense of right and wrong!

Is it possible that he was interested in buying your eggs because they are a specific type, but also has eggs of a different type for sale?

In my opinion, he is trying to buy and sell eggs under false pretenses. If he would have told me up front that he wanted to buy my fertile eggs, to re-sell them, that at that time, it would have been up to me to tell him yes or no. I think he was trying to make a sale under-handed. He told me he wanted the fertile eggs to put in his incuabtor.

I don't know, it's about the same as someone buying stuff from your yard sale and then re-selling it at auction on eBay. It's not a nice feeling, but we're dealing with a free market. You try to buy as low as you can and sell for the highest price.

Have a friend respond to this guy's ad & see what he's selling. It may or may not be the eggs you sold him. You can also follow his lead and sell your eggs directly on Craigslist for the price he's getting there. I don't think this guy really did anything wrong, unless he was a relative or close friend of yours. Or unless he was really pressuring you to drastically lower your price or complaining about the poor quality of your eggs.

But I'm sorry for your upset, I know it doesn't feel nice to be on the short end of a deal. Use it as a lesson to remember when you're dealing with others, so you don't cause them the same kind of hurt.

Wait, I just re-read the part where you said he was asking for eggs to put in his own incubator. Was he making a big deal about wanting to hatch his very own chicks and you were willing to sell for less to help someone you thought was a fellow chicken-lover, to help them get started with their own flock? Then that would be as wrong as telling a yard-sale seller how you wanted a certain item because it reminded you of Grandma, so they'd give it to you at a lower price, and then turning around & selling it at auction.

It's sad but true that many folks just aren't honest, and think it's perfectly fine to use any means to advance their own personal cause. Again, I'm sorry for your hurt, and again, use it as a lesson to remember when dealing with others.
