There are 3 viable eggs that were due this weekend under one of my broody hens. This afternoon, one pipped and about 45 min later completely hatched. Healthy and SO SO CUTE. Upon looking, a second one that I didn’t realized may have pipped earlier was cracked. I assumed I may have missed it, but am considering mama may have accidentally crushed it? I expected it to be just as quick as the first one but It’s been 5-6 hrs now. Looks like the membrane is dry. Chick isn’t chirping but I keep checking and there is movement. What should I do?!

You can use warm water and dab it on the dried up membrane. If it gets really stuck you can try help it out by picking pieces of the shell off carefully. Try and wet the membrane first and see if it can get out by itself, leave it for a bit, if it can’t get out I would try and help it out.

He’s great! Sorry I haven’t updated. Named him squirt-gun, and definitely a Roo. I really appreciate everyone’s help along the way, I would not have been able to do it without your expertise. Thank you!!!

Yes, definitely. He’s been accepted by the rest of the flock including his dad so far. If I have to get more hens to keep the peace, then it shall be. :D
