I have my hens for over a year now & they have been laying very well. Last week, on the morning my grandchild (Isobel) was being baptised the hens layed her a present of a tiny egg - see link. How did they know what was going on?

This morning they produced this pointed egg - what does it mean? are the cone heads coming?

The longer you keep birds and the more of them you keep you'll eventually see all kinds of weird shaped eggs.

Long pointed ones, some that are nearly round, lumpy, bumpy, calcium deposits, thin spots, uneven shading. Double and triple yolkers are enormous in size, 'wind eggs' are tiny and often have no yolks or only yolks. I once had a hen that laid eggs with two flat sides for three days running. Ocasionally I'll get one with the pointed end flattened out like it had been pushed up against something while still soft.

I keep meaning to photo the really odd ones, but never seem to get around to it.

... yeah, that's it... the cone heads are coming....
