My barred rock, a 1-year-old, has begun to lay funny-shaped eggs. I'm including the past few eggs in a photo below. Typically they are light brown and color and egg shape meaning long and pointy at one end rounded the other. Lately she's had a series of eggs that are getting progressively more round and less egg-shaped. Also darker in color. All of my chickens have around about the same feed meaning same protein content, vitamin content, etc. I have changed brands but not anything too drastic. They also get a healthy diet of free range and bits and pieces of scraps from the house and vegetables and fruits. I'm just curious why her egg shape has changed and color so drastically, could it be the heat? Could it be her age? Is this normal or abnormal?. I've read a lot about funny shaped eggs being a sign of illness but I'm not sure she seems to be quite well actually. If anyone has any experience please share! Appreciated!!

Usually it goes the other way around. Eggs get larger and lighter as the season progresses.

Could be the heat, or she could be getting at the end for the season.

Sometimes as they are shutting down for either a break or for the season they eggs start to be different sometimes. Some will begin molting as early August.

Thank you!
