Egg shells are rough!

Here's a couple pictures of what mine look like...

We ate the other one, but I'll try to take a picture of the other type that looks like sand. This one is more bumpy. They are only coming from one of my girls and there's no roo in with her.

its just a very prominent calcium deposit. The sandy/glitter stuff on the egg, is it from a hen that has been rolling in the dirt then it stuck to the wet egg? I get those quite often in the warm season not so much now with snow on the ground.

The sandy stuff is on a egg that just been layed in a nest box with straw.

Nope no roo. Wish I would have taken picture of the latest eggs but we used them this morning. The ridges go all the way around the eggs from the top to the bottom. The arn't like in the pictures shown. They go fully around the egg and are really indented. Some times the shells are really really tough to crack and some times they are fragile. It's really weird.
It's like a spiral all the way around the eggs she lays. Doesn't seem to bother her though. She sits in her nest, lays the egg, than jumps right off. She's real bossy of the flock just like she was the roo. I have to watch her or she will attack the others. She has tried to attack me and I've had to put her in her place. Maybe she needs a roo. lol

Ok, thanks. I'll try and keep it quieter around the shed, but with all the dogs around here thats going to be hard. The eggs she laid the last 2 days have been normal so as soon as she lays one of the grooved ones I'll take a picture.

I have 5 orpington hens. One of them lays eggs that are always covered in calcium deposits and quite "grainy" to touch. Another one lays eggs which have small indentations on the round end. Another lays an egg which is hard to tell the pointy end from the round and has a mottled look. After a week of carefully watching who was laying which eggs, I came to realise that each hen laid a unique egg and it was generally always the same colour, shape, texture and any odd characteristics also seem to be present to some degree. I can now tell who is laying and who hasn't by the eggs collected at the end of the day.

Mine aren't little "sprinkles" mine are like chips of egg? Is this the same thing??? The upper right egg.
