Egg shells too hard

I'm raising baby chicks, and they can't get out on their own. I've lost about 4/9 because the egg was too hard, I need a way to make them not so hard.

Because I can drop them on solid concrete, and not break them.

That's weird. My chickens aren't old enough to lay eggs but if you find out why can you tell me. I want to know what to look out for

Someone didn't play a prank on you and put in some fake eggs, did they? Can you candle them?

No, I can, they are free range so I can't control what they eat.
