Throw away the empty shells, they can get germy or attract bugs.

They don't have to stay with them no. Opening the bator to remove them is the question. Some people do not open the bator during hatch and will instruct you not to. Other's (me included) believe that if you are comfortable with it and have a high enough humidity, that shoud be a personal decision.
