Egg size in bantams

My entire flock of chickens are bantams. I got 25 bantams in March 2006 and still have most of those along with " new" ones of course. Some of my bantams are bigger than others and I have 3 golden hens ( can't tell them apart ! ) that have been good layers.
I now have 2 small white hens ( about 6 mos. old ) who I think have started laying robin size eggs !!! I think they are Japanese bantams white black markings on the white.
Does anyone know if hen size and egg size are directly related ??

Yes there is a relationship of hen size to egg size, the extreme examples are that robins are small and lay small eggs while ostriches are large and lay large eggs. The birds sizes in between follow this general rule but you will see some variation between individual similar sized birds.

I just pictured a large size egg coming out of a little bantie hen. Oh, poor girl.

Yes the size of the hen does determine the size of the egg, I will post a picture for you from different size hens.

We got her last spring & she waited till this year to start laying again.She was laying when we got her,but quit.

We put her a new roo in with her cause we werent sure the other roo was doing his job.Shortly after she started to lay,so it must have made her happy.

it did us when she started to lay.

We have 1 of her eggs in the bator due to hatch this Sunday 4/05.

I just noticed a " typo " in my question about egg size the other day... here it is,

I MEANT to say robin size eggs !!!! Not robin size rooster... At any rate, these eggs are tiny ! I was just wondering if it is likely that the smallest hens laid the smallest eggs...

Obviously, there is a problem here and I don't know how to fix it. Everytime I type the 3 letter word for the objects that hens lay, the word ROOSTER aappears on the screen/post.

Can anyone tell me what's wrong ?

hahahaha we are all having the same problem.... whole lotta roosters going on here today, A P R I L F O O L S is another one that gets changed to byc member and C H I C K S turns into hens.


I just bought a few silver duckwing oegb hens myself, they are quite different from the cochins and seramas i am used to, one is missing most of her upper beak and i felt sorry for her so i had to get her. As soon as they got out of quarentine and in the pen with my seramas for now they both started laying eggs on the floor. Seeing as someone clipped their wings they cant jump into the nest boxes so now i have to build them a ladder. My cochin bantam eggs are quite impressive in size but it took them over a year to get to that point. Bantam e g g s start out very small and gradually get larger as the hen matures
